How to play Killer Sudoku

Killer Sudoku gives you a focused activity to play in your browser. Fill rows, columns and boxes with 1–9 once. Cage digits cannot repeat and must add to their clue. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions. Read the objective before making your first input. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move.

This collection contains 8 puzzles. Progress is saved in this browser. The same puzzle can appear again; the collection is not labelled with calibrated difficulty levels.

Read before acting

Read one step at a time and try it on the playing area. Match the instruction to the control you use. Keep the objective visible.

Your goal

Fill rows, columns and boxes with 1–9 once. Cage digits cannot repeat and must add to their clue. Read that aim before choosing your first action. Keep the controls in easy reach.

Step by step

  1. Select an editable cell.
  2. Enter a value using the keypad or keyboard; Notes stores candidates.
  3. Read the region, cage, arrow or outside clues alongside the normal constraints.
  4. Check entries verifies the completed board; Undo reverses your last input.
  5. New puzzle selects another included puzzle.

Controls

Click or tap cells and the digit pad. Use Notes, Undo and Reveal selected. Large boards scroll inside the game. Use the control method described here for this activity. A new-round button replaces the current round.

A useful example

A two-cell cage labelled 3 holds 1 and 2; a one-cell cage fixes its own value. Focus on why the action is allowed, not only its outcome. Choose a deliberate next step.

Watch out for this

A full board must obey every extra rule. Reveal supplies assistance; it is not an earned deduction. Read the feedback to see why an action did not have the expected result. Keep the stated aim separate from side details such as animation or appearance. Progress is measured by the game’s own completion or scoring rules.
